In Paris, the police found 130 cats in a one-room apartment of 25 square meters, in which a 60-year-old woman lived. The animals eventually went to a shelter, and their owner went to a psychiatric hospital.
Initially, law enforcement officers received a call from the woman’s housemates in the Montparnasse district of Paris, who noticed her throwing a kitten against the window in her apartment on the third floor, reports Le Parisien.
Arriving law enforcement officers found a terrible sight in a cramped apartment. There were cats everywhere, and all the furniture inside consisted of a dirty mattress, a refrigerator, and two cat litter boxes.
The entire floor was covered in cat feces and there was not an ounce of food anywhere. The hostess herself was barefoot and dressed in rags.
To help the animals, the police called representatives of one of the animal protection organizations. It took the activists four days to catch all the cats, find enough carrier cages for them and take them to shelters.
The kitten, which the owner threw at the window pane, unfortunately died from injuries at the veterinary clinic. The woman was arrested on charges of cruelty to animals, after which she was sent for a psychiatric examination to an appropriate medical facility.
