A loyal canine has been finally reunited with his beloved owner, who tirelessly searched for him over the course of almost two years.
The incredible tale of their reunion is truly remarkable. A husky came into Kameroun Maresโ life at a time when she was in desperate need of love and companionship while battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia. After undergoing chemotherapy in the summer of 2013, Mares adopted the little puppy and named him Semper Fidelis, which means โAlways loyalโ in Latin, but called him Semper for short. Even though Semper was always loyal to her, they were separated when Mares had to travel from Florida to California for medical treatment in 2016, and her roommate promised to take care of Semper. However, Mares received an unexpected call from her ex-roommate, informing her that Semper had gone missing.
Upon arriving home, she scoured every corner of her house in search of semper. Even after relocating to California later that year, she remained in contact with shelters back in Florida. Mares tirelessly searched for her furry companion for an entire year, putting up posters on pet sites, contacting 15 vet offices nearby her old residence, and reaching out to humane organizations and shelters. She shared information about semper across various platforms such as Facebook, lost dog forums, and other animal welfare groups, but still, she heard nothing. Despite microchipping semper when he was just three months old, Mares had not received any updates on his whereabouts. Her concern for him only grew stronger with each passing day, and she missed him terribly. Eventually, she sought help from private investigator Ana Campos to aid her in finding her beloved pup.
Campos told The Dodo that the woman had purchased a lifetime registration with AKC Reunite. However, after a year, someone suggested that she check Semperโs AKC Reunite chip again. In May 2017, she went to the humane society, and upon checking online, discovered that a woman had put her name on Semperโs chip on April 11, 2016. It seemed that the other microchip company did not verify if an owner was already registered on Semperโs chip. Campos found out that someone had put Semper up for sale on Craigslist for $200, which explained why he had not been found despite Maresโ efforts. Recently, Semper and Mares were finally reunited, and both were overwhelmed with emotions. Mares cried tears of joy, and Semper could not stop jumping. Campos expressed his happiness at being able to play a part in their reunion.
Semper has seamlessly readjusted to his family life and is relishing in leisurely strolls around his fresh hometown of California. Heโs also been acquainting himself with the area alongside Mares, who thankfully is now in remission from her cancer. Mares proudly boasts that Semper remembers all the teachings and commands she instilled in him, including her personal favorite, the โgo homeโ command. โIโll say, โSemper, go home,โ and he knows exactly where to go. Itโs like he never left,โ Mares shares with pride.
According to Mares, the goat has become like a part of her and her heart. She expressed her relief to have the goat back in her possession. The German Shepherd has taken on a maternal role towards the baby goat and they share an affectionate bond. Despite being abandoned, the dogโs loyalty remains intact as it returns to protect its owner.
