At least 23 dogs have been removed from a residence in Ħamrun after Animal Welfare received reports of the conditions the canines were living in.

11 male dogs, five female dogs and seven puppies were rescued from the home by officers in an operation this morning.

It is being reported that the dogs were found to be in a poor condition, with some of them suffering from skin and eye illnesses amongst other conditions.

The dogs were not microchipped and were found without any food or water, with some of the dogs locked into small, rusty cages.

The Animal Welfare Director Noel Montebello appealed to the public to continue calling on 1717 to report any mistreatment of animals they may see. He also said that today’s rescue was proof positive of the good work that people can do if they report any abuse they come across in their daily lives.

The dogs are expected to undergo medical tests before being recuperated back to health.
