Kimberly Fugate, the proud mother of surprise identical quadruplets, shares her incredible journey since welcoming her four daughters in February. Despite their premature birth, weighing between 2 and 2½ pounds, and facing critical illness, they spent over three months in the NICU and relied on ventilators to breathe due to their underdeveloped lungs. Kimberly experienced moments of fear for their lives, with some of the girls' heart rates dropping and two requiring resuscitation. Thankfully, in June, they were given the all-clear and able to go home with their parents and sister. Currently weighing between almost 18 and 22 pounds, the girls are showing positive growth, and their doctor is pleased with their overall health. While one of the quadruplets has a mild growth disorder, she is under regular monitoring. Kimberly expresses deep gratitude and considers herself the luckiest mom in the world.
To accommodate their growing family, the seveп's moved from a two-bedroom trailer in Jayess, Mississippi, to a spacious four-bedroom double-wide mobile home. Additionally, they required a larger vehicle. Kimberly, overwhelmed with gratitude, shares, "I feel incredibly lucky, like the luckiest mom in the whole world. I never planned on starting over with more children, and many things have changed since I had my quadruplets: Keпleigh, Kristeп, Kayleigh, and Kelsey. Taking care of even one baby is a lot of work, let alone four, but I don't mind. It's a lot of fun, and they make it all worth it." Initially, the babies wore bracelets with their names, but Kimberly removed them out of concern for their safety, fearing they might put them in their mouths.
Each baby has their own unique personality, and I can distinguish them without a doubt. They also have subtle physical differences, like Kristeп having more hair and Keпleigh being the smallest. Despite their individuality, they all continue to eat every three to four hours, even overnight. When they wake up simultaneously, I try to feed them together. I place them in their floor seats and rotate bites of food among them. They display remarkable patience. Additionally, they are starting to hold their own bottles a little, which provides some assistance.
She further shared, "They are generally calm and happy babies. However, there are moments when they all cry at once, and it can be stressful. Thankfully, Katelyп, my 11-year-old, is a tremendous help. She assists with evening routines like baths and feedings. She helps lull them to sleep and keeps them entertained through play. Additionally, I have my family nearby, ready to lend a hand whenever I need it. I firmly believe that God chose me to have these quadruplets, and I have faith that He will take care of them and ensure their survival. Witnessing how far they've come fills me with a deep sense of gratitude and blessings."
