A large cardboard box was recently found outside the city’s animal shelter in Logan, West Virginia. When Robin Kilgore approached the box, she heard a soft meow from inside.
Robin arrived at the city shelter as an employee of the private shelter “One By One Animal Advocates” to pick up her cat and dog from the city shelter.
It was pouring rain and the cardboard box was all wet and softened. When Robin opened the box, she was surprised to find a small motley cat inside, who was trying to cover and warm three still very small kittens with her whole body.
“It has been raining since morning and we have no idea how long this box stood there. The cat and kittens were very cold and even the inside of the box was wet.”
Robin dried the animals with a towel, placed the cat and kittens in a carrier and took them to One By One Animal Advocates in the nearby town of Huntington.
After the cat and kittens were examined, warmed and fed, they began to look for a foster family. The new “mother” of the family, Sarah, has made a comfortable nest for the cat and her kittens from a box and a warm soft blanket.
The cat was named Gypsy, and her three kittens (they were all boys) were named Panda (white kitten), Cheddar and Velvet. The cat could not move away from her kittens for some time, but then she realized that they were in a safe place and relaxed a little.
