April 2022 was stained with the blood of an innocent cat. Injuries, poisoning, illnesses, dehydration… The poor animal suffered in its corner and launched silent cries for help which, fortunately, were perceived by the volunteers of the Nejma association. His benefactors moved heaven and earth to save him. During an interview with the editorial staff of Woopets, Julie, founder of the organization, remembered this rescue with great emotion. Narrative.
April 3, 2022. Julie , head of the Nejma association ( Villard-Bonnot , Isère ), received an alarming phone call. Clairanne , the guardian angel of a colony of felines at Péage-de-Roussillon , looked down on an “invisible” man who was suffering in silence. Prostrated in the shadows, the tomcat sported an emaciated body and seemed in a state of shock.
It was Fabienne , one of the volunteers contributing to the life of the organization, who was appointed to help this soul in pain. After 2h30 on the road with her husband, she recovered the hairball without any difficulty and took it to the vet. Extremely in bad shape, she let herself be manipulated without putting up the slightest resistance.
“ His eyes were glued together, we thought it was a big coryza , Julie told the Woopet microphone , but they were filled with blood. The vet explained it was rat poisoning. Feverish, dehydrated and thin, the animal was drawing on its last strength to survive. To make matters worse, multiple bruises lined her little face painfully. An individual plagued by malevolence had certainly dealt him many blows…
“ They stayed an hour and a half in the cabinet , continued our interlocutor, the vital prognosis was engaged. The cat – unidentified – received an infusion and emergency treatment. In particular, he received vitamin K to fight against the poison, which had invaded his body. Once out of the clinic, Fabienne , who set up a foster family, drove him home. His fight for the right to life was still not over…
A life of Maupassant
” Fabienne and her husband have built a chalet with an outdoor enclosure for the cats we rescue ,” said Julie . The Good Samaritan pampered her protege, baptized Maupassant , in the hope of continuing to feel his little heart beating. In addition to giving him his medication, Fabienne took the time to feed him with a pipette, as he was unable to feed himself.
It was only after a month that Maupassant began to bounce back on his feet. Alas, further visits to the vet revealed that the mustachioed was a victim of hypertension, FIV (AIDS) , parrot beaks and a very rare heart condition known as asymmetric hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. “ This pathology does not put his life in danger , assured our source, he also had injections of Solensia to fight against osteoarthritis and to help him regain a comfort of life. »
10 months after his landmark rescue, our velvet-legged hero has literally recovered! He went from 5 kg to 8 kg, and discovered the joys of home. Although he is still under treatment and remains fearful with humans, he has fun in the cozy nest set up by his benefactress. “ He has become very playful… and has put on weight! “Enthused the head of the Nejma association .
After facing many hardships and overcoming death, Maupassant will not be offered for adoption. He will remain with Fabienne , with whom he has forged a unique bond. “ Stories like these strengthen us in our fight , concluded Julie , it is worth fighting for and gives us energy to continue. I have admiration for Maupassssant, because he is a great warrior! »
The lucky star
The Nejma association took root in the Isère landscape in 2019. With the help of her colleagues Fabienne , Léa and Évelyne , Julie spreads her wings to fly to the aid of “broken faces”, which many passers-by refuse to look at. . The majority of felines cared for by this animal protection organization are positive for FIV. Others suffer from leucosis , calicivirosis, tumors or disability.
“ The problem is that we take a long time to find adopters, because our cats have AIDS, physical damage and are not always sociable. You should know that fearful cats evolve. A real relationship ends up being created, but it takes time , expressed our interlocutor, we only work with host families and we have a sponsorship system. Maupassant has not yet found a godfather or godmother… ”
For the little anecdote, ” Nejma ” means “star” in Arabic. A star that carefully watches over the “invisibles”, and lights their way to lead them to the door of happiness! At present, several animals dream of pushing her, such as the beautiful Electra , deaf and amputated with one leg . But that’s another story to discover soon on Woopets ..
