Real Madrid midfielder likely to play regularly in attack next season

One of Real Madrid’s most impressive players this past season has been Federico Valverde. Even though he was unable to assist the team in retaining the league title, the Uruguayan assisted in 11 league goals.

The way Carlo Ancelotti used Valverde’s talents in the attack was what made his season stand out as particularly intriguing. Typically noted for his work in midfield, Valverde spent the majority of the previous season playing in the wide offensive role on the right side.

He also did not dissapoint, scoring five goals and dishing out three assists while playing right wing in 17 games.

And it seems that his efforts have not gone unnoticed, as a recent MARCA report (h/t Madrid Xtra) suggests that the Uruguayan international is likely to stay in attack for the upcoming campaign.

In light of Barcelona’s increased efforts to get Arda Guler, the source notes that Real Madrid are unlikely to recruit any new players this summer.

In light of this, Fede Valverde will likely be used in a wide attacking role rather than his favoured center midfield position by Ancelotti. The arrival of Jude Bellingham, who should play either the number eight or number ten position, is likely to have an impact on his choice.

In order to incorporate Bellingham into his plans for the upcoming season, Ancelotti is even thinking about switching to a 4-3-1-2 system. But if he sticks with the 4-3-3, it’s possible that Valverde will get the call on the right side of the attack.

Vinicius Junior is expected to occupy the left with Valverde on the right, potentially allowing Rodrygo Goes to lead the Real Madrid frontline. If it succeeds, it may be a fascinating formation that would be quite profitable.

However, if Valverde doesn’t maintain his brilliant form in attack next season, Ancelotti might move Valverde back to his midfield position, which could result in Joselu playing more minutes.
