Julie McConnel and her husband Dan, from Nampa, Idaho, USA, were filled with happiness and excitement upon learning they were expecting twins. However, the news that both children had Down Syndrome took them by surprise and left them feeling unprepared.
"It was both shocking and terrifying, and it took us a long time to come to terms with it," Julie shares candidly with WTSP 10 News.
Seeking support and understanding, Julie turned to social media during her pregnancy. Today, she has become a pillar of strength for other pregnant women and new mothers of children with Down Syndrome, offering them the support she once sought herself. Julie's journey has transformed into an inspiring story of love, acceptance, and providing hope to others walking a similar path.

When Julie sought out other mothers on social media who had children with Down Syndrome, she was met with an outpouring of support and a sense of security. This newfound community helped her realize that life with a child with Down Syndrome doesn't have to be negative at all.
"It's a myth that they're happy all the time, but they truly bring a lot of joy," she shares affectionately about her twins, Charlie and Milo.
"They may take a little longer to achieve certain milestones. Walking and talking might be a gradual process for them. But when they do reach those milestones, our celebrations are unlike any other," Julie says with pride.
"We are immensely proud of their accomplishments," she adds, beaming with love and admiration for her boys.
