The streets of Amsterdam have never been in better hands, and whoever dares to commit a crime in this city will be caught by the notorious police cat .
Lydia Faber, 45, lives in the capital of the Netherlands with her cat Nimis, who has become a phenomenon in the city and on social media for her curious police uniform.
It all started one day, when Lydia, who lives with her michi in a houseboat on the Amsterdam canals, was terrified that her cat would drown, and decided to put a life jacket on it.
Initially the vest was yellow, but Nimis is completely black, so when he went for a walk on the streets, the neighbors immediately started calling him “the neighborhood police officer”.
“Soon, people in the neighborhood were joking about it. ‘Look, there’s our local policeman again,’ they said. One day, when I accidentally found police badges in a toy store, I decided to add them to the vest myself.”
rapid rise to fame
Lydia has two nieces, ages 8 and 10, who spend a lot of time on social media, so in order to share pictures of Nimis and talk with them, she decided to open a TikTok account .
“I communicate with my 8 and 10-year-old nieces. I recently visited them. Those girls are on TikTok all day,” Lydia explained. “That’s why I decided to create an account for Nimis. Then we could message each other through TikTok.”
He began to upload videos of his michi with his police vest hanging around the streets of Amsterdam and the city’s channels, and without imagining it: Nimis began to go viral.
“Suddenly everything went viral and I had tens of thousands of followers. Now I get so many messages that I can’t even find my own nieces. One of the videos has been viewed more than 1.4 million times. It’s not normal, is it?”
Currently, Nimis has more than 69 thousand followers on TikTok, up to 1.6 million views on his videos and is already famous among the citizens in Amsterdam.
Even the same policemen take photos with Nimis, their new co-worker, and even joke about the situation saying that it really is a police cat.
Nimis does not leave home without his vest, which has already saved his life on more than one occasion, and he knows he needs it before beginning his adventures taking care of the streets and canals of Amsterdam.
