As captured in a video, Mentee was found sitting on the side of a busy road in Athens, Greece. It’s unclear what he was waiting for, although one volunteer who rescued him believed he might have been waiting for someone. Sadly, Mentee is just one of many puppies abandoned on the streets of Greece every day. It’s a heartbreaking situation that leaves countless pups without homes or families.
Mentee is not the only unfortunate pup out there. In fact, he is just one of many who face difficulties like illness, malnutrition, and poison on a daily basis. Despite his seemingly sad demeanor, Mentee is lucky to have been rescued, as most pups like him don’t make it very far. It’s important to remember that not all homeless dogs were born on the streets. Many come from pet dogs that have not been spayed or monitored, resulting in unwanted litters that are often discarded by their owners. Sadly, we don’t know much about Mentee’s past, including who his mother is or where he came from. However, since his rescue, he has shown signs of improvement, gaining weight and wagging his tail. Despite this progress, Mentee still spends a lot of time alone in a corner, possibly struggling to adjust to his new life.
The poor puppy appears to be suffering from demodectic mange, a condition that commonly affects young dogs with weak immune systems. Despite his emaciated appearance, I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of affection for him when I saw him yesterday. He exuded both sadness and sweetness, and although his current state may be disheartening, I have faith that he won’t remain unhappy forever.
Although the foster care facility may not be ideal, it’s certainly a better option than living on the streets for the dog in question. Unfortunately, this is often the case for many Greek rescue organizations due to the overwhelming number of dogs in need and the lack of resources available. As a result, rescuers have had to come up with creative solutions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of these animals, even if they aren’t perfect. In this case, the dog is being cared for by a foster parent who looks after 19 other rescue dogs.
