Heartwarming Tales of Pregnancy at Fourteen
Those who perceive TikTok as merely a platform for youngsters to learn trendy dances or quick microwave recipes are missing out on its community of teenage mothers. The hashtag "teen mom" has garnered over 11 billion views on TikTok, and more than 10 million of those views are attributed to Brooke Morton, a teenager from upstate New York.
Brooke Morton established her TikTok account after giving birth to her daughter, Aloura Lavender, in March 2021, shortly before turning 15 years old. While most of her videos amass a few hundred thousand views, some, like the one titled "this is my teenage pregnancy story," in which she candidly discusses her unplanned pregnancy, have reached 10.5 million views.
In her post, Morton opens up, saying, "As I became pregnant, I had a strong conviction. I was determined to raise my daughter." She goes on to share, "My pregnancy wasn't something I took lightly. It presented significant challenges for both me and those around me." Morton's experience is not unique within her family; she discloses in her very first YouTube video that her parents also became teenage parents, further highlighting the intergenerational aspect of her story.
Morton shares glimpses of her life with her infant, Aloura, through posts on her Instagram account, showcasing their bond. She has transitioned from attending physical school to taking online classes, allowing her to care for Aloura at home. She resides in Cornwallʋille, an upstate New York town, with her baby's father, 17-year-old Jason Vaughn, and Vaughn's father. While their main focus is parenting, Morton and Vaughn managed to have a night away from their daughter to attend prom in June. Morton shared moments from the prom on Instagram, including solo poses in a white gown, couple poses with Vaughn, and a heartwarming image of the three of them together in a lush yard.
Despite attempts to reach out for comments, neither Morton nor Vaughn responded to inquiries from The Post.
Morton and Vaughn, who collectively amass nearly two million followers across platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, have become integral to a larger community of teenage parents. This community offers mutual support and even features collaborations among its members on various social media platforms.
Cadyn Potʋin, an active teenage mother on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, recently shared a heartwarming moment where she posed with her daughter at her high school graduation. Having become a mother during her junior year in 2021, Cadyn has garnered a significant online following, with around 5,000 followers on Instagram and 60,000 on TikTok. She frequently collaborates with Morton on social media, although they don't have a personal connection. Sarah Hoмrich, another 19-year-old mother with two children, enjoys substantial popularity on TikTok with 900,000 followers and 26,000 on Instagram. Despite not knowing Morton personally, they engage with each other's content.
Interestingly, some teenagers display feelings of envy towards mothers like Morton. For instance, one of her followers, Oliʋia Claire, left a comment on one of her June YouTube videos expressing pride and a sense of shared aspiration. Oliʋia admires Cadyn's journey into motherhood and acknowledges that they are the same age, expressing her desire to become a mother from a very young age. Oliʋia finds Cadyn and her family adorable and encouragingly expresses her support.
