According to Romano, Man City had to pay Chelsea £30 million to secure the services of Kovacic. Previously, Kovacic expressed a strong desire to join Man City this summer, and the Croatian player has "agreed 100%" to the personal terms with the Sky Blues.

Kovacic has only one year left on his contract with Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile, The Blues are looking to offload some senior players (including Kovacic) as part of new manager Mauricio Pochettino's rebuilding plan. Kovacic is the third major midfield departure from Chelsea this summer, following Tiemoue Bakayoko and N'Golo Kante.

In addition to Kovacic, 13 other players have also left Chelsea, including Derrick Abu, Prince Adegoke, Nathan Baxter, Juan Carlos Familia-Castillo, Bryan Fiabema, Joe Samuel Haigh, Henry Lawrence, Sam McClelland, Dujon Sterling, Amari Otieno Thomas Silko, Ethan Wady, Jayden Darren, and George Wareham.

Before the Kovacic deal, Romano announced that Al-Nassr had reached an agreement to sign winger Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea. Ziyech has signed a contract until June 2026, with the fee undisclosed. This transfer is expected to be officially announced soon. Just minutes later, Romano continued to report on Chelsea's personnel situation. According to him, Al-Ahli club has also reached an agreement to sign goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

With the arrival of Kovacic, he promises to be a quality addition to Man City's midfield, especially considering the possible departures of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva. In addition to Kovacic, the Sky Blues are also negotiating the signings of center-back Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig and midfielder Declan Rice from West Ham.
