Though rescue animals are grateful to be saved and cared for by volunteers, they always look forward to a forever home. Unfortunately, their poor conditions do nothing to help them find an owner. Most animals in a shelter are abandoned or abused, so they suffer from health issues and mental disorders. Anyone willing to adopt those miserable animals is a hero with a warm heart, and you can be sure that Engelbert’s father in the touching story below is such a hero.

Engelbert was left in a shelter for a long time due to serious health problems before he met his forever owner, Steve. The man arrived at the shelter center too late to take the dog he wanted, so he walked around the property to look for another. That was when he found Engelbert, an adorable dog that might have stayed the rest of his life at the shelter if Steve didn’t adopt him.

“If you don’t know his story, he was abused by his previous owner and taken by the shelter,” Steve writes of Engelbert. “He’d been kept as an outside dog all winter. He had frostbite on both ears, which had to be removed, and he suffers from neurological issues. His back legs don’t work properly, but he’s a mighty little dog. This dog gives a lot of love. I’ll catch him just staring at me, as if he can’t believe his luck.”

After enduring loneliness for a long time, Engelbert was finally welcomed home with a big family of 6 dogs, one pig, a cat, a rabbit, other animals, and one person. All furry members in this strange house are rescues, and they live in harmony with each other.

Steve and his animals form such a large pack, which may prevent him from finding an ideal partner. However, he has felt enough love from all his sweet babies. Let us introduce each member of this huge pack to you.
Let’s begin with Engelbert’s little friend, Phyllis, a blind but brilliant dog. Despite her shut eyes, her heart always opens widely to feel love from others.

There is a 12-year-old bichon mix called Edna in this sweet family. The dog was abandoned by the old owner and could not find a home because of her feeble condition.
“She has a couple medical problems but they are completely treatable. A week before this picture was taken she was on a cement floor, in a cage, in a shelter,” Steve shared. “She wouldn’t even look up. I was aware of her situation… and I’d been watching, hoping that someone would adopt her, but that did not happen. She now resides with me. She’s a fantastic dog.”

The only pig in the house, Bikini, seems to get along with the chubby rabbit Stuart. They even share their favorite sofa together.

Taking a family walk looks fantastic! Steve is also stunned when he looks back to see how he got his pack, but he never regrets bringing these wonderful animals home.
“I never realized you could have a measurable connection with a rabbit, chickens, pigeon, or pig when I was younger,” he stated. “But as I grew older, I took my time and let those things happen. My life has improved.”
