Through their official website, Man City has confirmed the successful acquisition of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea on a 4-year contract. Kovacic, glowing with excitement, made his debut for Man City, receiving the number 8 jersey at his new club. The Man City website stated, "We have completed the signing of Kovacic from Chelsea on a 4-year contract." At the Etihad Stadium, Kovacic donned the number 8 shirt, previously worn by Ilkay Gundogan.

Earlier, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Man City would pay a transfer fee of £25 million to secure Kovacic. Chelsea would receive an additional £5 million if Man City achieves specific titles, unrelated to the player's performance.

After achieving the historic "treble" in the 2022/23 season, coach Pep Guardiola has already started planning to strengthen the squad and maintain Man City's position. According to the Telegraph, the next target for the team is Josko Gvardiol after the successful signing of Kovacic.

Reports in the English media indicate that RB Leipzig is demanding no less than £75 million for the Croatian international. Man City is prepared to spend heavily to acquire Kovacic's compatriot. Additionally, Man City also has intentions to purchase midfielder Declan Rice from West Ham.
