According to the British press, Manchester United (MU) is considering sending forward Mason Greenwood on loan instead of selling him this summer. Greenwood was cleared of attempted rape and assault charges in February this year but is still under internal investigation by MU. As a result, he has been absent from playing for the Red Devils for a long period.
MU has been evaluating options for Greenwood's future, including loaning or selling the 21-year-old striker. However, manager Erik ten Hag is reluctant to sell Greenwood and instead prefers to send the English player on loan in the summer of 2023.
Earlier this month, the Daily Mail revealed that MU is considering sending Greenwood on a long-term loan to Europe, with Italy, Spain, and Turkey being possible destinations. This decision stems from Ten Hag's belief that Greenwood may still have a future at Old Trafford. He believes that the 2001-born forward "can score goals for MU" based on his past performances.
MU had the lowest goal tally among the top six Premier League teams last season, and the club is actively seeking to recruit a top-class striker this summer. Greenwood could also be a solution for the Red Devils if they choose to retain him. After making 135 appearances for MU, Greenwood has scored 29 goals.
Currently, Greenwood has two years left on his contract with MU, with the option to extend for an additional year. Despite not featuring for the Red Devils in the past 18 months, Greenwood is still included in the list of players that MU plans to keep. However, the merchandise with the 21-year-old player's name is absent from the club's website and store.
