According to The Times, striker Kylian Mbappe now has only two options with PSG: either extend his contract or be sold in the summer of 2023. PSG has presented two choices for Kylian Mbappe.
Last week, Mbappe unexpectedly announced that he would not extend his contract and would stay at PSG for the upcoming season. This is a disaster for PSG as it means they will lose their 24-year-old star next summer. It's worth noting that PSG had to spend a whopping 180 million euros to acquire Mbappe from Monaco in 2018.
According to The Times, to avoid losing out on any money from the Mbappe situation, PSG quickly sent a "final warning" to the reigning World Cup champion. Specifically, Mbappe is obliged to extend his contract until the summer of 2025, with the condition that the French forward can leave in the summer of 2024, but for a minimum fee of 100 million euros. PSG wants to ensure that they can recoup a significant portion of the amount they spent on Mbappe five years ago.
If Mbappe still refuses to activate the contract extension clause, PSG will do everything possible to sell the French national team captain this summer. The Parisian club is forced to adopt a tough stance even though they genuinely do not want to sell Mbappe.
In the latest development, the former Monaco player announced that he will stay at PSG for the upcoming season, while ruling out the possibility of leaving in the summer of 2023. At the same time, President Florentino Perez will not spend any more significant amount after signing the "blockbuster" contract of Jude Bellingham from Dortmund.
This means that Coach Ancelotti will have to accept not having a player of the same caliber as Karim Benzema as a replacement. Ancelotti will have to put his trust in newcomer striker Joselu, who is on loan from Espanyol.
