Just a few hours after parting ways with coach Christophe Galtier, PSG has appointed Luis Enrique as the new head coach of the team. According to the recently signed contract, Enrique will work for the French capital representative for 2 years.
PSG's collaboration with Enrique was actually anticipated beforehand. As early as last month, reputable Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Enrique had agreed to lead PSG for 2 years. However, he had to wait until his colleague Galtier left PSG before becoming part of the Parc des Princes team.
Now, Romano's shared information has become reality. Through the official website, the Ligue 1 champions have issued the following statement: "PSG is pleased to announce that Luis Enrique has become the new coach of the club on a 2-year contract. Coach Enrique comes to PSG with an impressive track record both as a player and a coach. One of his accomplishments includes being awarded the Best Coach of the Year in 2015 by FIFA."
During Enrique's unveiling ceremony, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi shared, "With the collaboration with Coach Enrique, PSG has entered a new chapter. We are delighted to have the services of one of the world's top coaches. This is not only demonstrated through his achievements but also through the way Coach Enrique operates teams. The distinctive attacking style of Coach Enrique is something we want to bring to PSG and our fans."
Enrique, a former player who has played for both Real Madrid and Barcelona, has been a coach since 2008 and parted ways with the Spanish national team last year. On the day he signed the contract with PSG, the 53-year-old strategist said, "It is fantastic to lead PSG and experience new things. I am very happy to meet the members of PSG, come to live in Paris, and learn a new language."
