According to Spanish media, Real Madrid is cooling their interest in signing Kylian Mbappe due to his excessively high wage demands. Reports from Marca even revealed that the leadership of the Spanish club criticized Mbappe as "a prisoner of money" and stated that they will not meet the 24-year-old forward's extravagant salary demands.
Currently at PSG, Mbappe is earning £893,000 per week, making him the highest-paid player at the Parc des Princes. He has a contract with the club until June 2024 with an option to extend until 2025.
However, the French superstar has made it clear that he will not activate the one-year contract extension clause and is certain to leave Paris at the end of the 2023/24 season. This means that PSG will be forced to sell Mbappe in the summer of 2023 if they don't want to lose him for free the following summer.
Real Madrid, who have a strong desire for Mbappe and are in need of a top-class striker to replace Karim Benzema, the 2022 Ballon d'Or winner currently playing in Saudi Arabia, have planned to recruit the World Cup 2022 Golden Boot winner.
Marca revealed that Mbappe's team is seeking a salary and signing-on fee of up to £206 million to join the Bernabeu club this summer. However, Real Madrid has outrightly rejected these demands and is willing to wait to secure Mbappe's signature on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.
Nevertheless, amidst recent developments, everything remains speculative. In reality, Mbappe himself has always had a desire to wear the white shirt of Real Madrid, and he has never denied this. In fact, if PSG agrees to let Mbappe leave in the summer of 2023, he would be willing to accept a lower salary to join Real Madrid.
