BLACKPINK‘s Jennie made her Met Gala debut earlier this year, wearing a specially recreated archive piece from Chanel‘s Fall/Winter 1990 Ready To Wear collection.

As the last Chanel ambassador selected by Karl Lagerfeld, Jennie’s appearance at the 2023 Met Gala honoring the late German fashion designer, who served as the creative director of Chanel from 1983 until he passed in 2019, was even more meaningful.

Jennie recently returned with a new YouTube vlog, where she took BLINKs behind the scenes of the big day and gave fans more insight into the carefully curated Met Gala look that she wore.

On the day of the Met Gala, Jennie began by shooting a getting-ready video with Vogue which included a rigorous skincare routine to allow Jennie’s flawless skin to maintain its healthy glow from every angle on the 2023 Met Gala carpet.

In her vlog, Jennie introduced Lee Seon Yeong, a celebrity hairstylist who has worked with the BLACKPINK members for everything from editorials to music videos to red-carpet appearances.

Lee Seon Yeong wanted Jennie’s Met Gala style to help represent the beauty of Korea, and she incorporated Korean elements, such as her braided hairstyle, into the overall timeless look.

While Jennie was gorgeous at the event and was a highly anticipated attendee, some netizens felt that her outfit was on theme but was underwhelming for one of fashion’s “biggest nights out.”

Of course, others quickly defended her style and praised her interpretation of the theme. Before her Met Gala debut, Jennie addressed the classic style and explained why she didn’t go with more extravagant styling.

The talented BLACKPINK member described her Met Gala style as a mixture of “Korean and modern and traditional and classic.” As for why she went with the look she did, she had considered that carefully.

[I] really wanted to create a timeless look where if I look back in like ten years, I don’t want to regret anything. So that was also a big decision that I considered. Jennie loved the overall look and was confident in her styling, helping her to relax before the event.

She hilariously shared that the only problem was she wouldn’t be able to sit down for the next two hours, and her back, unfortunately, hurt because of the hair extensions she was wearing.

Jennie’s Met Gala debut was a success, and the global star was comfortable and happy in her chic, timeless look.
