It was a typical day when a group of people witnessed a dog’s collapse after being hit by a car. They immediately sent us a video clip of the motionless dog in a pool of blood. We advised them not to move the dog and rushed to the scene to provide immediate medical attention. It was clear that the dog had suffered a severe head injury, and we were worried that he wouldn’t make it.
When we arrived at the scene, we found the dog completely disoriented and in a state of shock. He was moving randomly, not trying to flee but more like experiencing an adrenaline rush and a completely dazed brain. We knew that we had to act fast to give him a fighting chance.
We carefully transported the dog to our clinic, where we began to treat him for his injuries. We named him Mitchell, a strong, stable, and serious name for a boy who had the very serious work of healing from a head injury for many days ahead.
For the first few hours, we were concerned that Mitchell’s brain injury would bleed, causing permanent damage. We needed to watch him around the clock to make sure he didn’t lose consciousness due to brain bleeding, which is one of the dangers of concussion. But within hours, he began to show signs of slight improvement, able to focus his gaze and permit himself to be gently touched. The biggest surge of hope we experienced in those first frightening hours was his interest in food and his ability to coordinate his head movement enough to eat by himself.
Over the next few days, Mitchell made slow but steady progress. We worked with him on light physiotherapy, encouraging him to stand up and move around. He was weak and disoriented at first, but he slowly started to regain his strength and mobility. It was clear that he was a fighter, and he was determined to heal.
As the days went by, Mitchell’s recovery was nothing short of miraculous. He went from a dog on the brink of death to a lively and playful pup in just a few weeks. He could stand on his own, walk around, and even play with other dogs. It was an incredible transformation, and it was all thanks to the love and dedication of our team.
Mitchell’s story is a story of hope and healing. It’s a reminder that no matter how dire the situation may seem, there is always hope for a better tomorrow. Mitchell’s future is bright, and he’s an inspiration to us all. He reminds us that with love, care, and dedication, we can overcome any obstacle. For Mitchell, “the rest is a future,” and we couldn’t be happier to be a part of it.
