A few years back, a petite white dog named Delilah endured abuse and neglect that nearly claimed her life. Thankfully, the Mr. Mo Project intervened, offering her a safe haven for recovery. Mariesa and Chris Hughes initiated the Mr. Mo Project to rescue senior dogs following the loss of their beloved rescue dog.
Today, the couple’s home houses numerous dogs, both fosters and permanent residents. When Delilah needed refuge, they wholeheartedly embraced her into their pack. Witnessing her transformation from her earliest days to the present is genuinely heartwarming.
Upon rescuing Delilah, they discovered her front foot to be severely matted and infected, rendering her unable to walk on it. Her jaw also suffered an injury, resulting in a permanent crook. Her past reflected a lack of the love and care she truly deserved. Chris shared, “It just blew my mind how someone could have a dog like this, just in such horrendous condition.”
Despite the amputation of her leg, Delilah’s adaptation was swift. She likely had been avoiding using that leg for an extended period before the surgery. In no time, she gleefully frolicked and engaged with her fellow dogs, leaving behind her old life for a chance at happiness. With her leg gone, Delilah emerged from her shell, embracing her new humans with exuberant kisses.
Unstoppable Spirit:
Even with a household brimming with dogs, Mariesa and Chris recognized they couldn’t part with Delilah. Her compatibility with the other dogs was evident, and they knew she’d thrive in their home. Consequently, they officially adopted her, solidifying her position within their pack.
In celebration of her becoming an “official pack member,” Chris bestowed a new collar upon her. Several of the other dogs observed this heartwarming gesture, seemingly approving of the unity.
Mariesa remarked, “I think she’s now the dog she’s always wanted to be. And she may not have thought that could ever happen. It’s pretty amazing.”
Delilah radiates a playful and optimistic demeanor that brings smiles to all who encounter her. She’s virtually unrecognizable from her past, a testament to the transformative power of love for a dog in need.
