The resurrection and makeover of an abandoned baby in Africa.

In early 2016, a heart-wrenching image of a malnourished black baby, without underwear, captivated the world. This viral photo highlighted the devastating impact of hunger on millions of African children.

The identity of the boy and the compassionate woman in the photo was soon discovered. Anja Ringgren Loven, a Danish volunteer, encountered the boy named Hope during her trip to Nigeria. He was abandoned, labeled as a witch, and surviving on landfill leftovers.

Hope’s situation was unimaginable. Discriminated against and neglected, he suffered from severe malnutrition, wore no clothes, and had a hearing impairment. Anja couldn’t forget the moment she held the frail child in her arms.

Hope’s story took a positive turn when he received medical care and found a home with 35 other abandoned children at the orphanage founded by Anja and her husband. Anja’s kindness earned her the title of “inspirational woman of the year” in 2016.

Over time, Hope’s condition improved, and he began to regain his health. The heartwarming images of his weight gain and joyful moments with friends brought reassurance and hope to many people.

The powerful journey of Hope and the unwavering compassion of Anja Ringgren Loven remind us of the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative impact of acts of kindness. It serves as a poignant reminder that even in the face of unimaginable hardship, hope can be restored and lives can be changed.
