It can be said that the English star no longer has to worry about his future at Old Trafford.
Manchester United has had a relatively slow start in the summer transfer window. Of course, the upgrading of Man Utd's squad is not over yet, as their most desired target this summer - a top European striker - is still missing at Old Trafford. Additionally, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, after completing the aforementioned plans, Coach Erik Ten Hag also aims to reinforce two other positions: central defender and defensive midfielder.
Before entering the summer transfer window, there were many indications that Man Utd intended to upgrade the right-back position. They were even rumored to have contacted Bayer Leverkusen to sign Jeremie Frimpong. However, at the current time, it seems that the Old Trafford side has put this plan aside, indicating that Ten Hag has turned his attention to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Less than 10 months ago, Wan-Bissaka was considered one of the most likely names to be sold by Man Utd. From the start of the 2022/23 season until the leagues paused for the 2022 World Cup, he only played a mere 4 minutes in all competitions. Therefore, it was widely believed that the English defender would leave Old Trafford, possibly during the winter transfer window.
However, Wan-Bissaka made an impressive "comeback" in the latter half of the season. Not only did Ten Hag give him more playing time, but he also threatened Diogo Dalot's starting spot with consistently impressive performances. Notably, it was Wan-Bissaka, not Dalot, who was included in the starting lineup in the recent victory against Arsenal.
At the moment, it can be affirmed that Ten Hag has completely changed his stance on Wan-Bissaka. Instead of trying to offload him from Old Trafford, sources from journalist Alan Nixon indicate that Man Utd is preparing to extend the former Crystal Palace star's contract by activating a 12-month extension clause. From all aspects, it can be easily concluded that this is a completely correct decision from Ten Hag.
There is no reason for Man Utd to sell a player who has had a strong resurgence and is currently performing impressively. Most importantly, if Wan-Bissaka is sold, Ten Hag would have to bring in a quality replacement, which would only make the situation at Old Trafford more unstable, considering that the plans to sign a central striker, defensive midfielder, and central defender have not been completed.
Moreover, there is no guarantee that Frimpong or any other defender can adapt to the Premier League and perform as impressively as Wan-Bissaka has done recently. Overall, retaining Wan-Bissaka at this point is a very sensible decision
