Meet Emma Roo, a brave Dalmatian pooch who had a tough beginning. Sadly, she was once part of the dog meat industry in Xi’An, China, which put her through unimaginable pain and suffering. However, luck shone on her, and she was rescued by kindhearted individuals from a local meat shop when she was only eight weeks old. Upon observing her, they noticed that she had been subjected to severe abuse and torture. She had no front legs, and her ears and tail had been mutilated. Despite all the trauma she had endured, Emma Roo was given the gift of a second chance at life.
Emma was fortunately saved just in time and taken to a veterinary facility located in Beijing for some much-needed care. The vets discovered that the young pup had an unusual condition in her hind leg, as well as a few digits missing, indicating that she was likely destined to be butchered.
It has been reported that those who trade dog meat believe that amputating the limbs of animals without using anesthesia can improve the taste and quality of the meat. They claim that this practice causes maltreated animals to produce more adrenaline, resulting in a more succulent product for consumers. In 2019, a young girl named Emma was placed with a foster family for two years before being returned to the clinic.
The rescuers enlisted the aid of Dalmatian Rescue to enhance Emma’s quality of life, given the greater popularity of dog adoptions in the United States as opposed to China. Emma was transported to the US on April 20, 2020, right before animal exports were prohibited due to Covid-19. Dalmatian Rescue shared her story on social media in an attempt to locate a suitable home for her. Misha Rackcliff Hunt came across the post and decided to adopt the three-year-old dog, bringing her to Charleston, South Carolina. Misha is convinced that Emma’s injuries are the result of human actions, which is unfortunately typical for “uncommon” breeds to be mistreated.
Despite the challenges faced by Emma, Misha is determined to provide her with a happy and normal life. However, Emma is still grappling with emotional issues stemming from the abuse and mistreatment she suffered in the past. Misha reveals that Emma is currently struggling to move on from her traumatic past.
