Unexpectedly, the young mother wanted one more child, but ended up with four!
"A mom's TikTok videos of her adorable quadruplets have captivated viewers. In a now-viral clip, mom Dayna shared that she had initially hoped for one sibling for her first son, but ended up with four babies instead. The post, with over 14.2 million views, features her walking out of a room followed by her eldest child."
Dayna Childress, a 28-year-old resident of Springboro, Ohio, experienced a whirlwind journey to expand her family. After getting pregnant with her first son, Lincoln, within a month of trying in 2015, Dayna and her partner decided to have another child when Lincoln was nine months old. Unfortunately, she suffered a miscarriage at six weeks. Dayna went through two more pregnancies, both of which ended in miscarriages.
Concerned about her chances of having more children, Dayna sought the expertise of four different gynecologists to investigate any potential fertility issues. She was prescribed fertility drugs and took them for a year before finally conceiving again. Doctors cautioned the couple about the 30% chance of multiple pregnancies associated with the medication.
Dayna fondly recalled, "The pregnancy was smooth and very healthy. When I had my first ultrasound at five weeks, the screen revealed four sacs, two of which had babies with strong heartbeats. I wasn't too surprised because I thought, 'Maybe it's just twins.' A week later, during another ultrasound, all four babies were there with visible heartbeats. Before I had time to process the shock, four days later, I woke up to bleeding. I immediately went to the doctor, and the ultrasound showed that the babies were still fine. I had a subchorionic hematoma and an undeveloped fifth sac. After that, the rest of the pregnancy went quite well."
Dayna shared, "It's absolutely crazy! My nightstand was filled with all the essentials - my breast pump, milk containers, bottles, formula, reflux medicine, pacifiers, and snacks and drinks for myself. I had the bed lined with Snuggle Me beds to prevent the babies from grabbing the cords when I needed to pump. Throughout most of the day, you would find me snuggled up with all four little babies. We also used two double strollers to take them out, and as the kids grew older, we added a wagon. Here's a glimpse into my day as a mom of quadruplets and a five-year-old. My husband takes care of making coffee in the morning while I prepare breakfast for the kids so it's ready before they wake up. I wake up my five-year-old, who then helps me wake up the quadruplets. By that time, my husband has already left for work."
From there, they all come downstairs, change diapers, have breakfast, and enjoy a bit of playtime. Dayna warms up her now-cold coffee, gives the kids a snack, and dresses them in new outfits. It's usually a whirlwind, and the house ends up in disarray. And all of this happens only halfway through the day. Dayna then describes how it's time for the kids to take their naps, and she has a very limited window of "me time" before preparing lunch.
After that, they come back downstairs for diaper changes and lunch. They continue playing for a while, and then they head outside before another snack time, which often leads to another tantrum. By this point, I'm usually too exhausted to cook, so I order dinner. It may sound repetitive, but it's true: one day, you'll realize how quickly it all went by and wish you could go back to those chaotic moments just to see that sweet smile one more time. Take a deep breath and try to cherish every single moment.
