A 12-year-old girl in Bangladesh is suffering from a rare disease that leaves her whole body covered in black hair from head to toe, the Daily Mail reports.
Little Bithi Akhtar, from Tangail, central Bangladesh, has suffered from “werewolf syndrome” since birth, according to local media reports. However, medical experts believe that the girl may have suffered from hirsutism, an overgrowth of hair.
Her mother, Beauty Akhtar, 27, said: ‘My daughter was born with thick, wool-like hair covering her body. “We went to several doctors but no one was able to cure her completely. Now, at least, the hair has stopped growing.”
However, last year as Bithi neared puberty, her breasts became abnormally large, making it impossible for her to stand up straight.
“Bithi’s breasts grew so fast that they became heavy and pressed down on her stomach. She cried all day in pain. She couldn’t walk or sit up straight,” said Bithi’s mother.
Despite being a capable student, Bithi still had to drop out of school.
Bithi’s condition left her parents both heartbroken and worried. Their other two children are completely healthy. Bithi’s father, Abdur Razzak, a motorbike taxi driver, had to borrow money from a bank to take his daughter to treatment.
Currently, Bithi is being treated at Bangabandu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. However, while the girl’s condition can be cured, Abdur Razzak, believes he cannot afford to pay the necessary treatment costs for his daughter.
“Her condition left me completely exhausted. I was heartbroken to see my daughter in pain and living in seclusion… I took out a bank loan of more than 3 million dong and took her to the hospital. I hope Hopefully they will have the best treatment for Bithi,” the heartbroken father shared.
Doctors at Bangabandu Sheikh Mujib Medical University are also looking for treatment for the girl.
