Chelsea considers Lukaku as surplus to requirements, while Inter wants to borrow back the Belgian striker. However, this deal could fall through due to one reason.
Chelsea has signaled that Lukaku has no future at Stamford Bridge. The former Manchester United forward also does not want to return to London. Instead, Lukaku desires to extend his contract with Inter.
Currently, Inter's financial situation does not allow them to purchase Lukaku. Therefore, the management of the Milan-based club decided to inquire about borrowing Lukaku for another season, with an option to buy for £30 million at the end of the 2023/24 season.
However, this proposal did not sit well with Chelsea. The reason is that The Blues want Inter to include an "obligation" to buy Lukaku, rather than it being "an option." In reality, Lukaku's return to San Siro could be resolved in various ways.
Meanwhile, Chelsea is targeting Inter's Andre Onana. Therefore, both parties could potentially involve Lukaku in the transfer deal for Onana. Chelsea needs to take the next steps promptly, as Onana is also being pursued by Manchester United.
