According to the Spanish newspaper Nacional, Manchester United is considering a move for Real Madrid's center-back David Alaba in case Harry Maguire departs.
Harry Maguire is currently included in Manchester United's squad for the summer 2023 tour. However, the 1993-born player is believed to be unhappy after losing the captain's armband under coach Erik ten Hag, and he could leave the club this summer.
Many teams are interested in signing Maguire, including West Ham, Tottenham, and Newcastle. With EURO 2024 taking place in Germany next year, Maguire needs regular playing time to secure his position in the England national team rather than staying as a substitute for the defensive duo of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez. Therefore, he is considering his options regarding potential offers.
Not only Maguire but also Manchester United is preparing for the possibility of parting ways with the former Leicester City player. As per Nacional, Manchester United will try to recruit Real Madrid's center-back David Alaba if Maguire decides to leave. Coach Erik ten Hag has been impressed with the versatility of the Austrian player since his time at Bayern Munich.
Manchester United is willing to meet Alaba's high salary demands. Meanwhile, Real Madrid is asking for a transfer fee of 50 million euros (£43 million) for the 1992-born defender. Real Madrid's director of football, Juni Calafat, has already anticipated Alaba's departure and is currently searching for a new defender for the club. Currently, Manchester United and Real Madrid have a good relationship, with the Madrid club agreeing to let stars Raphael Varane and Casemiro move to Old Trafford.
